Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy

Good news first.  Talk is that unused funds from tarp will be spent on new roads and bridges, and to save the jobs of firefighters, teachers and other public employees.  The number being bounced around at this point is $70,000,000,000.  There was an Jobs summit today, held by the President, an attempt to do something about the terrible mess the job market is in.  For the more fiscally conservative out there, you’ll be happy to know that there is no plan for a second stimulus.

Bad news.  I still don’t have a job.  It’s getting old, and has been for awhile.  I am doing everything I can do to get a job, but it seems like no one is hiring.

No matter what the President does, that office has only a limited effect on job creation.  It is up to the private sector to really get things going, and they are, from the perspective of a man who desperately wants to work, being almost painfully slow about things.  Both companies that are doing relatively well and some that are coming around after a tough time are still cutting jobs and laying people off.  Everyone from Georgia Pacific to Aer Lingus to Reuters to Pfizer to Wells Fargo to Lansing Michigan’s Police force are going through layoffs.

Our bottom lines are directly affected by their actions.  Right now, as far as jobs are concerned, corporate America, by looking out more for the short term good of its investors, than the long term good of the customers they serve, are a drag on the economy, more so perhaps than anything else right now…except maybe the fact that the systemic problems that created the economic meltdown in the first place still haven’t been solved.   Someone needs to do something FOR us, the unemployed, the underemployed, those who have done nothing wrong except have a job working for a bunch of heartless bastards.

The woman below has the right idea.

Fire me will ya...

Maybe I should be more understanding of the business needs of America? BULLSHIT.  Since when have they given a rats ass about me and my wife’s needs? Or yours, or anyone else’s?  They care only about their bottom line.  Should we be different? Should we not learn from their lesson? The world needs to stop being so nice to these people who clearly don’t feel the need to return the favor.

Maybe I need to relax? HELL NO.  I am out of work, desperate to find it, and no one seems willing to hire.  YOU relax when the choice becomes get a job or get forced out of your home because you can no longer afford it.   Thousands, tens if not hundreds of thousands have had to deal with that already,  tell them to relax, tell them to wait until business is better.

This problem needs a human face, not just words on a page, either mine or anyone else’s, to make it plain to businesses everywhere that the cuts have simply gone too far.  The bottom line of corporate America shouldn’t be more important than the lives of the American working man and woman.

Maybe I’m just letting my frustration over not being able to find a job get to me.  But so what? I have been trying to be nice about it for too long.  I’ve tried everything I know to do, spoken to others, looked for and listened to advice from a great many people, tried for training in other fields, tried to get whatever help was available.  Nada.  Squat.  Nuttin.  And I’m sure that feeling isn’t just me.  Not with 17.5% of the populace out of work, or not making enough to make ends meet.

Can’t blame the people who work for these companies or the ones who are being laid off.  They have done no wrong.  It’s the CEO’s and all the high and mighty rich punks, and their flunkies who have been fleecing us who need a good swift kick in the ass.  It may not seem like that much of a big deal to you, mister working stiff, and my venting here may seem a bit off base, but with one in 6 Americans out of work, and no light at the end of the tunnel, and more companies laying people off, ask yourself a question.

Do you feel secure in your job? I did too.  Lots of other people did as well.  Out of work we are, regardless.  Chew on that for a minute.

Enough of that.  Watch a viddy on regulation with Paul Krugman.

That’s it from here.  Later!

Today’s Nuggets, by Eric Hoffer, Via wikiquote:  To most of us nothing is so invisible as an unpleasant truth. Though it is held before our eyes, pushed under our noses, rammed down our throats — we know it not.

When cowardice becomes a fashion its adherents are without number, and it masquerades as forbearance, reasonableness and whatnot.

Our doubts about ourselves cannot be banished except by working at that which is the one and only thing we know we ought to do. Other people’s assertions cannot silence the howling dirge within us. It is our talents rusting unused within us that secrete the poison of self-doubt into our bloodstream.

Our greatest weariness comes from work not done.

I knew it...

…was too good to be true!

I fucked up. That job I got, you know the one that my hopes and dreams were rested on? Yeah, it’s part time – a 0.4 FTE. Fuck!

I know it didn’t say that in the advert, but i’ll never know. SHIT! PISS! BOLLOCKS!

But the strange thing is, i’m not half as cut up about it as I thought. It’s also made some other bad feelings seem less significant. How does that work?

I’ve applied for 8 jobs today in a kind of kneejerk reaction to finding out that when it rains, it’s usually life pissing in my face. But when life gives you lemons, all you can do is break out the tequila, Peanut…

Adios…

The Decision to Click Send

If you win the rat race
If you come in first place
Then a rat is all you will be
-   Devotchka, The Clockwise Witness

It is Tuesday, December 1, 2009 and I am overwhelmed with a rare combination of fear and excitement.  Before me is my email of resignation, but I cannot bring myself to click send.  In the worst economic recession of my generation, is it crazy to leave a secure and high-paying job with nothing but an idea and savings to last a year?

I’ve always wanted to do an internet startup, and I’ve always told myself when I had the right idea I would pursue it.  I really believe in this idea; it has the potential to change the world, to help people, and even to generate a fortune.  So what am I waiting for?  I’m only 27 years old and this may be the last chance I have to take such a risk.

I have been building up to this decision for 5 months.  Reviewing my sent items, I first communicated the idea to friends on June 28th.  Since then, I have thought about it daily, not to mention spoke about it with my friends and family who are probably about ready to kill me.  While I tried to convince them, I was really trying to convince myself, and I can’t thank them enough for listening.  I finally justified it this way: business school would take 2 years full-time, and require a large investment; for a fraction of the cost and closer to one year, I can gain invaluable experience.  But I’m pretty sure my mind was already made up.

I went to a therapist for the first time last week to help me organize my thoughts (and to use my health insurance while I still had it).  After reciting my well-rehearsed speech, he said it was clear that I had thought this through.  Where I seem to be stuck is (surprise) related to my parents, who could not be any more opposite.  My mother is a risk-taker who enjoys life and spends money like water; my father is a workaholic who rarely enjoys life and saves every dime (do I need to add that they divorced?).  “You have two voices in your head,” my therapist said, “one for each of your parents.  They couldn’t work it out, but you’re going to have to learn to.”

I also realized how unhappy I am with my current job at a big corporation.  I’ve achieved success in most people’s eyes, but that impression is based on solely on the name of the company I work for.  Most people do not even understand what I do.  Why does the name make them proud and not how happy I am with what I am doing?  It finally occurred to me that the work I am doing is meaningless, that I could easily carry on for the rest of my life, that I am not moving in the right direction, and that the only reason to stay is financial security.  When I look around, I do not feel like I am in the right place, nor going to the right place.  Not to mention all the ridiculousness, waste and inefficiencies of working for a large corporation, but those stories will have to wait until after I leave.  (By the way, once you realize your job is BS, there’s no going back.)

I called my mother today who said she supports the decision, but warned me that I will have to suffer.  When I was a child, she suffered to build up the family business.  I remember a little silver car.  I remember hand-me-down clothes.  I remember being happy with very little.  Since I started working, my salary has tripled, and with each raise I only think of more things I want.  Now I find little joy in going out to eat (unless I go to a fancier, more expensive restaurant); nothing feels special any more.  In a way, I want to suffer.  I would rather scrape by doing something I love than be financially secure and waste away.  I want to feel alive again.  I want to feel passionate about what I am spending my life doing.

I’ve always believed that everything happens for a reason, and that one should follow their gut.  The problem is, some things don’t happen for a reason, and sometimes what you think is your gut is something else, like your testicles.  The fact is my gut has led me to where I am today, and so I must continue to trust it.

I’ve been stuck, but that doesn’t mean I can’t continue my story – I’m ready to click send.

Is Network Marketing America's Reform? You Tell Me.

Just the other day I receive an e-mail from Mike Dillard about a very intriguing subject.  It seems that the nations is headed for a real rude awakening and if  you don’t believe there is proof and I would advise you click after you have finished reading this post. Now Land of  the Free and Home of the Brave is basicaly our motto but check this out we have a Monetary System that is not in the lamest terms, majority of  the veterans are Homeless, and according to the Department of Labor 31 million people are currently unemployed.  Click the link if you don’t Believe.

http://cohort11.americanobserver.net/latoyaegwuekwe/multimediafinal.html

Now you are probably wondering why am I repeating a lot of this stuff you have already heard before. The thing is well I hear about of people say their are wrong people for your business, but they a system so sweet that a Homeless person can use it right. Then we have this title that we promote “United States” ask yourself  what that means to you as I keep going.

First things first The Fractional Reserve System is the monetary system and for this section I got a few questions I’d like you to answer:

1.Where does money come from?

2.How does The Fractional Reserve System truly work?

3. Is gold still backing our money? If no, then what is?

You find those answers then we will go deeper in that rabbit hole.

Secondly, majority of our veterans are Homeless, in correctional facilities, veteran hospital, and/or is on Social Security. Now I know this from personal experience of being homeless at one time and no I am not a Veteran, but when I was wothout a home I watch many of them cash their Social Security check  and go to the dopeman before they get food.  Then we say that is their fault they do that but they are the Brave talk about in our motto.  But as marketers we can put together courses that change your whole perspective on your life and finances but they get a check and a lame workforce center when all are gradually going to technology. You stil with me now. What kind of Home is that for the Brave?

Thirdly there are as a right now there are 31 million people out of a job.  Now you are probably wondering what is the truth  behind why people are losing their Just Over Brokes (J.O.B.s) Well that is what I am here for to tell there are 3 keys to this dramatic drop in the past decade:

1. The Making of Profit- I learn this in fast food, if you are not making sales you have to cut labor and that goes for almost any industry except one that I know of.  This also involved the cutting corners developing products. Ask yourself is the jobs of these positions starting with the employee they make the money. Next the Management watches over the employees, put marketing plan in motion while making labor/profits and watch over the money. Now it is the job of the Vice President to babysit the management team while the President is counting the money the CEO gets to spend.  Just let you know if you have you are in a PYRAMID yes I said a PYRAMID. This evolved into point number two.

2. Lack of  Product and  Work Quality- What do these haved to do with unemployment you ask? Let’s say there a manger you know is completely incompetent for his position.  This person cuts corners to make profit by ordering cheaper quality mateirals, not following all the systems in place, teaching new employees these tactics to work, and this person might the greatest budgets reports. Now if the entire team is not learning high level work quality from the people put in positions to do so the work quality begins to drop. This is what I call Lack of Employee Respect and yes this involves people caling off, showing up late, no pride in what they do because they never truly been taught the value in their job, and so many other reasons. This low quality of product and work ethic brings to results of Termination and Voluntary Resignation.(Quit)  This lack of quality also brought another problem  for people in the workforce and that is point number three.

3. Innovation(Technology)- Now let’s all these quality problems start to affect the profits then this forces the the CEO to find way to erdicate these  problems the customers say the business has with it’s product and work quality. Then comes into copmuters to do a faster, more consistent and effecient, also cost effective.  Ask yourself why do we have ATM, you can order pizza and Wendy’s online,  voice dial on phones and many, many more.  See now that technology is rolling  it’s not going to stop. So more tech less human jobs.

So now  that we have got through all that so what do we change all these problems. This is where I feel Marketers come into place.

First off stop thinking their are wrong people for your business, because you don’t want to teach them. All these same people that are not right for your business have made a multitude businesses  successful directly and indirectly. Just cause they have been taught horrific work ethic already we don’t need to make them think they can’t own their own business.

Remember a one point in time you were where they are and didn’t have it all figure out. So we give all humans the same FREE OPPORTUNITY to do the same.

Secondly we should stop marketing with minds and our pockets because that is the same mentality that is destroying the workforce.  We need to start marketing with UNARMED TRUTH and UNCONDITIONAL LOVE for our prospects and customers.  Become true “Knowledge Workers” and teach the ENTIRE World for the common Good of ALL humanity.

Or we are going to have homelessness at high levels, uneployment of  ridiculous proportions, crime ratesescalate, and we know all the things that come with recession.

Are going to be part of the solution or continue with the problem?

Just think about some of these I said today think our future.

Peace.

Post-Thanksgiving Thoughts

Hello all. I finally have time to update this! I have made quite a bit of food in the last few weeks, but nothing for Thanksgiving, alas. The boy and I drove the 11 hours to Ohio to visit my mom’s family (but no Mom & Dad, unfortunately, they were having Thanksgiving with my other grandparents back home) and had a lovely Thanksgiving Day and a productive (and kind of expensive), but not stressful Black Friday. We drove home on Saturday to avoid the traffic and stopped in Pennsylvania to visit friends and their adorable little boy and have lunch at a great diner that had amazing pie. I had coconut cream and the slice was like a quarter of a pie. Ginormous. I was unable to finish it and felt a little sick afterwards, especially since it was topped with meringue, not whipped cream. Ooof.

Thanksgiving dinner was lovely. Grandma made deliciously moist and fatty turkey with oven-baked stuffing, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, corn, and sweet potato casserole, in addition to her amazing bread-maker bread (sooooo good!), raw cranberry relish, and apple and pumpkin pie. The sweet potato casserole was a revelation. She baked the sweet potatoes, then peeled and mashed them smooth with sugar, egg, and a little spice, then put it in a casserole dish and topped it with brown sugar and chopped walnuts. It was so smooth and sweet, it tasted like pie! I had some with little turkey sandwiches for dinner.

Friday night we had leftovers at my aunt’s house and she made broccoli cheese rice casserole that was also amazing. *nom*

Now that we are home, things are slowing down a little finally. This week is my last week of class and I’m down to 10 hours/week at work. Which kind of sucks, but is kind of nice. I start my consulting work in January (which will be 30 hours a week or so, so it will even out) and class starts again January 20th. I’m only signed up for one class so far, but I think I’m going to try and make my consulting job my internship and maybe take one more class, depending on what my parents’ insurance company says, anyway! The parents have also offered (well, Mom demanded, actually) to help pay for school, which is nice and a big load off my shoulders but also makes me wonder, am I ever going to be able to take care of myself? Lol…

It’s a dark and rainy day today and it’s put me in a contemplative mood. I always get contemplative in late autumn and into winter. It’s nice to slow down and not have the stress of giant papers for school looming overhead. That’s one thing I think our urbanized society is missing that was present in rural and agricultural societies: down time in the winter. All the cold and darkness makes you want to just hole up and sleep late and read and conserve energy and cook and do craft projects. Which, if we were living on a mid-19th century farm, is what we’d be doing! Well, except for the sleeping late part. The animals need feeding, after all!

I didn’t get much time to think about thankfulness during Thanksgiving. I was too busy with school and packing for our trip and getting up at 5:30 am and driving 11 hours in heavy traffic and rain and then doing Christmas shopping and trying to avoid the crowds (which we did ably by going to places like Home Depot, Sears Home & Hardware, Lowe’s, and Bass Pro Shops). But now I have time to think. And here’s what I’m thankful for:

  1. The boy. : ) He’s the love of my life, he makes home a home, and I can’t imagine living without him. Did I mention that he’s funny and interesting and incredibly easy to talk to and get along with? I’m thankful that I’m able to just be with him every day.
  2. A roof over my head and the ability to put food on the table, even if we have to save up for things like bookshelves and other furniture.
  3. Friends and family. Especially family, for taking care of me and paying for things I’m too poor to pay for myself. And friends, old and new, for being awesome and fun.
  4. The opportunity to go to graduate school in a field I love.
  5. Having a job in the field and opportunities to expand my experiential horizons, even if the pay is kind of crappy and there are no benefits.
  6. Fresh food. I love fresh, whole fruits & veggies and am very lucky to live in an area where not only are they readily available, but are also local and often organic and usually pretty cheap.
  7. Good kitchen tools. They are slowly being amassed. I still don’t have enough enameled cast iron, though.
  8. Creativity. It’s the only reason why I can cook.
  9. Books. Cookbooks, fiction, hell, even textbooks. They are lovely. But I have too many of them. Would you like some? Please ask.
  10. Pretty things and things that make me feel pretty.
  11. Self-control. This is the stuff that makes me do my homework, clean (occasionally), and not buy cute shoes and clothes that I not only probably can’t afford, but don’t have room for.
  12. Vintage/antique stuff. Not only can it often be cheaper, it’s usually better quality and prettier than new stuff. Plus, hello? Reuse!
  13. And lastly, Facebook. Yes, Facebook. Because lord knows I never call anyone and it’s my only way to keep in touch (however tenuously) with far-flung friends and family.

There. How’s that for a list? Not too long, not too short. Half serious, half irreverent. Just like me.

And now, my dears, it is that time of the day in which I must start rustling up dinner, putting away washed dishes, and maybe, just maybe, washing the dirty ones before the boy comes home. I hope you all had lovely Thanksgivings. Tomorrow I’m off from work, so I think I will write about my Thanksgiving-inspired food goals/recipe list. Because we all need one. : )

Surviving the Recession Without a Job

Job loss related stress
Millions of people are now experiencing a new reality. The American Dream has become the American nightmare for many, as thousands of jobs are being lost every month. In addition to the jobs that are being lost, many others are now underemployed and have been forced to work for less compensation. While thousands of people are losing their jobs every month, the household expenses still continue grow.  The emotional strain of trying to pay the bills without a job is paralyzing. Once workers lose their job, it continues to be extremely difficult to get back into the workforce. Due to the disappointing labor market, millions of idled workers are on the sidelines waiting for a recovery to dip their toes back into the job market.

Now even though the current state of the economy may be discouraging, we cannot sit back and let negativity overwhelm us. There are still legitimate ways to earn income without being employed. The evolving economy has created a larger demand for a contingent workforce. Contingent workers are typically known as freelancers, independent professionals, independent contractors or consultants. These workers are usually self-employed and typically offer their services in exchange for a fixed rate of pay. There are many ways to get started as an independent contractor. If you would like to make money from home, marketing products online is a very viable option for you. Anyone who would like to make money from home, regardless of experience, can learn how to harness the power of the Internet to sell products online. Each and every year people just like you and I collectively earn billions of dollars online, by selling products for companies who offer performance based compensation.

I encourage you to take control over your income. The ability to work independently and make money from home may be necessary for survival in today’s economy. Here is a resource that has helped a beginner, with no previous experience earn a consistent $59,000.00 per month. It may be able to help you take control of your income and make money from home.Click Here
