Caut job, urgent

Nu vă speriaţi, că n-am rămas şomeră. Dar banii pe care-i obţin nu-mi ajung. Şi nu-s din aia care cheltuie banii pe tot felul de prostii şi iese toată ziua bună ziua în oraş. Salariul de-abia îmi ajunge pentru cheltuielile lunare. Plus că m-a mâncat undeva de am făcut şi un credit în bancă şi m-am pricopsit cu o mândreţe de rată lunară deloc neglijabilă.

Aşa că de câteva luni îmi mai caut un job. Numai că nu găsesc nimic, ori poate sunt eu bătută-n cap şi nu ştiu unde să caut. Plus că mi-am ales aiurea şi perioada, pe criza asta nu prea se fac angajări. Am sunat la anunţuri prin ziare de mi s-a acrit. Am depus o groază de CV-uri. Am mai întrebat în stânga şi-n dreapta, cunoştinţe, neamuri, nu se leagă nimic. Nici nu mai am speranţă că voi găsi ceva.

Ca o ultimă încercare disperată, am decis să-mi fac reclamă şi aici pe blog. În speranţa că s-a găsi cineva care mă poate ajuta. Nu mi-e frică de muncă, pot să lucrez câteva ore în fiecare zi (pe lângă programul de la primul job), plus sâmbăta şi duminica. Am mai lucrat ca vânzătoare la magazine alimentare, am avut grijă de copii, chiar am dat şi meditaţii la matematică. Ştiu să lucrez foarte bine pe calculator, mă pricep la contabilitate primară, am făcut traduceri din/în limba engleză, am şi permis de conducere.

Belle De Jour Finally Revealed

This is Dr. Brooke Magnanti who is a respected specialist in developmental neurotoxicology and cancer epidemiology in a hospital research group in Bristol. She is also the anonymous blogger, “Belle de Jour”, of Diary of a London Call Girl and writer of 3 subsequent books which launched the Showtime show, Secret Diary of a Call Girl.

It started 6 years ago, when in the final stages of her PhD thesis, she ran out of money and turned to prostitution through a London escort agency, charging £300 an hour. Already an experienced science blogger, she began writing about her call-girl experiences in a blog.

Surveys

Couple of months ago 2 friends told me about how they were making some walking around cash by answering surveys in their spare time.  Hmmm, I have some spare time so I asked them to forward me the information. They sent me the links, I joined and one of my friends made some change because I joined under her.  Some survey companies don’t have  affiliate programs.  Affiliate programs are another way to make some money, simply by referring people to the company’s site and having them join.  I will write on this topic another time.

Weeks later, I receive surveys weekly.  They take anywhere from 5-20 minutes each.  Often you will need to answer basic questions about yourself to generate surveys.  Questions asked vary: where do you live, age, gender, ethnicity, work, education, income, rent or own, etc… The more you answer about yourself or household the more surveys you will generate.  The frustrating part is that you may not qualify for some of these surveys but you don’t find out until you are half way in to them.  Also, most of these companies only allow one member per household, it really helps if you are the decision maker of the house or else you may not qualify for the bulk of the surveys.

Payment, some of these companies pay you in sweepstake entries, market points and some monthly via check or Paypal.  Sweepstakes entry is just that, for every successfully completed survey you receive an entry into their sweepstakes.  Market points are points allocated to the given survey, for example, survey A can have 35-60 market points, Survey B 50-75 the amount depends on how well you fit the survey’s target demographic.  1 market point  maybe equivalent to 5 cents and the cash out point is $25.00 or you can use the points to buy items on the survey’s market.  The monthly check is aways best, although some survey companies will have a minimum cash out amount, you can ask for a check or transfer into your Paypal account.

PineCone Research http://www.pineconeresearch.com  they may or may not be taking new participants. They pay $3 a survey via Paypal or check.  They also have Sweepstakes. No affiliate/referrals yet.

Global Test Market  http://www.globaltestmarket.com/ they are always taking new participants, market points & sweepstakes, no affiliate/referrals yet.

MySurvey.com https://www.mysurvey.com/index.cfm?action=Main.join&r=6815607 they are always taking new participants, market points & sweepstakes, yes affiliate & referrals. 1,000 MySurvey.com Reward Points have a cash value of $10.00. Member accounts below 1,000 Points have no cash value.

Focus Point Global Survey  http://www.focusgroup.com they are always taking new participants, they pay via check after a $20 has accrued or after 3 months of membership. No affiliate/referral yet.  If you qualify for their surveys they call you to be a part of a focus group and pay up around $100 a session.  The focus groups I’ve been invited too are in Santa Monica.

These are just some of the Survey Companies I’ve tried recently and made some walking around cash, let me know if you’ve tried any others, I will give them a try as well and review them.

Get Creative- Get a Job

As you may have noticed lately- I expect to graduate this year- a year earlier than the typical bachelor degree plan. As exciting as that may seem, it’s rather intimidating. My past experiences with the next-step-in-my-life process were simple. I applied to colleges and I got accepted. I had good grades so not only did I get accepted, but they paid me to go to their school. I was blessed to receive such generous scholarships from Northwood.

But the job search process isn’t as easy as all of the other processes I’ve been though before. I apply and I’m the one begging them to bring me on, not the other way around as it always has been for me….

So I’ve had to get a little bit more creative in my job search. For example, I’ve been following some great blog writers, and I’ve subscribed to their blogs. To find some experts in the marketing industry, I’ve followed them on Twitter… Read their newsletters… and stalked them on LinkedIn (that’s what it’s there for right?). I got their names, and contact information and I learned not to hesitate to send them a message. What do I have to loose?

I pick  out some things that I enjoy, and keep track of them. After some time, I write them an email, complimenting them and sharing some of my work. I explain that I’m about to graduate this year and ask if they have any advice etc. People like to be complimented on their hard work. It softens them up and they want to help you, because you’re devoted. By showing that you have read examples of their past entries and not just their last two or three, you are showing them that you really are interested. An even bigger plus, is if you actually use their advice in a school project or in your internship. Use that as an example and model it in your portfolio, it’s a win win for both of you!

If they’re within my region, I have learned to ask if I can job shadow at their firm or company. It’s like a free interview, with no pressure. You have nothing to loose because they probably don’t have an opening (if they did, it would be an interview not a job shadow) and you get to spend much more time with them and meet the whole team. You have the chance to win them over and ask questions. In the end, you can stay in touch. Email them every now and then. Follow them on Facebook and Twitter. Continue interacting with them and don’t hesitate to check back every now and then. If you come across something that reminded you of your time down there, just shoot them an email, let them know you’re thinking about them and that you appreciated their valuable time you spent with them.

These are my basic tactics to getting in contact with the right people. I’ve learned to put up some armor though, because since they’re not out there to be found for job openings, there are going to be a lot of declines in that area- but you never know what it could do for some day in the future when they do need somebody- and that’s what is important!

How was your day?

There are days when you woke up on the wrong side of the bed. You leave your bed with little motivation and enthusiasm to go about your day that although nothing bad happens, (your day) just lacks that umph.

Other days, you wake up the moment that alarm clock rings and you immediately hop off the bed, sing or dance in the shower and proceed to have a mini-adventure of your own later that day.

I think I just had one of those days where I felt alive and chatty.

I had all reasons to be grouchy because I had to wake up at 5am just to make sure that I finish my work before 7am and have it ready for the boss to go over at 10am.

Plus, I had to rush all the way to Bandar Baru Sg Buloh to meet a class or Fifth formers who published a book, which is now in its second print. I’ll blog more about that some other day.

And then, I had to take the komuter to go back to the office and finish another piece of writing to be submitted before my sub leaves the office and takes the day off tomorrow.

But today, I also have a lot to be thankful for.

I work up at 5am and managed to finish my work within two hours  –  just like how I had planned. Normally, I would set the alarm at 5am and would hit the alarm and go back to sleep.

Then, my husband was free to send me to Bdr Baru Sg Buloh, so I didn’t have to take the train because I was running late anyway. We got to the school without any problems because I could find the school in the GPS and it took us right to it, right on time.

I had a blast talking to the students and some of the teachers who treated me to lunch. And then, one teacher — who was on the way home — was very kind to give me a lift to the komuter station.

I had to wait for only 15 minutes for the train to arrive and had a good chat with a Sixth former who was going back to her boarding school in Seremban. Before I alighted the train at KL Sentral, she actually salam-cium my hand as a sign of respect because earlier I had told her I was older than she thought. She thought I was a college student. Haha! That made my day

I got back to the office just in time to write the piece and still managed to leave the office at 6pm.

And when I got home, my mom-in-law had cooked yummilicious nasi ayam and I had that for dinner.

My day couldn’t be any better, really!

So I wonder what kind of day is in store for me tomorrow? Whatever tomorrow lies for me, I’ll start the day with a prayer and a rock-out session with my Disney princesses Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez.
